Live feeds remain essential in hatcheries for many different species. The enrichment of these live feeds has greatly increased the survival rates for first-feeding larvae for many of these species. To preserve this enrichment within the live feed organism, cold storage has been a tried and true method to ensure the highest levels of nutrition get to the larvae. Oceans Design's cold storage systems are manufactured from the highest quality materials and maintain a steady temperature throughout the cold storage process. This means a more complete and consistent nutrient composition can be maintained in the live feeds.
Our Fiberglass cone tanks are fully insulated and utilize a titanium coil to cool the water to 9°C. The coils and tank can be cleaned and sterilized with minimal effort. Tanks are available in 132 and 284-liter sizes (other sizes available on request) and have a 45-degree cone. A cold water plant is utilized to circulate fresh water through an inline chiller and an insulated storage tank. Once to temperature, water is circulated through the titanium coils cooling the coned tanks for cold storage. Live feeds can be fed to the larval tanks manually or using peristaltic pumps to deliver the live feeds. The peristaltic pump is used to pump live feeds into a small dedicated culture water line for each tank. This keeps the delivery line at a sufficient velocity so Oxygen is not depleted on the way to the tank.
