Projects
Customized projects is an area where Oceans Design really shines. We pride ourselves on making your vision a reality, whether it is supplying your facility with the only US made self-cleaning larval tank to full-service design and installation of commercial scale hatcheries. For over 15 years, we have taken on new challenges and ventures expanding our expertise and knowledge in the field. There is no job too small, or too extensive for our team; a satisfied client is our main focus.
Our team of aquaculture engineers, automation specialists and skilled machinists pair perfectly with our research scientists who have years of experience working in the field. The diverse background assists our design process by offering different schools of thought from individuals who have real world experience to offer insight on planning and application. Couple that with a 10,000 ft² warehouse to pre-build, water test and perform in house R&D, our team has the knowledge, skills and infrastructure to succeed with any proposed project.
Check out just a sample of some of the custom projects completed below and reach out to our team of specialists to discuss your new project goals.

Aquaculture Systems
Oceans Design develops visionary fish farmers the system they need to accelerate growth and innovate food sources. From commercial-scale hatcheries to grow-out facilities, our aquaculture systems allow you to produce a high-quality product at a competitive cost.
Every system must operate flawlessly. Any breakdown in the system can make the difference between profitability and bankruptcy. Your Oceans Design system protects your investment, enabling your company to care, rear, and yield your target species. We empower you with automation to elevate your company, building return on investment, and stay ahead of the curve.
Research Racks
Oceans Design is a leading manufacturer for turn key research systems that can be used for a variety of species. Our rack systems are well suited for most inverebrate species featuring insulated rectangular tanks available with thermal dual pane windows. These systems are popular with researchers conducting experiments on corals, sea urchins, abalone, tropical fish, among others. All systems are custom designed to meet the specific requirements of the researcher and the species of study. Oceans Design will work with you to design a system that will meet all your goals and beyond.
Sea Water Intakes
A good source of reliable, clean water is key to any operation holding aquatic animals. Every water source is different and may contain varying levels of total suspended solids (TSS), microbes, and algae. Temperature has a big impact on the growth rate of organisms which serve to foul piping systems.
Oceans Design takes all these factors into account when designing our source water filtration systems. Pigging systems are incorporated into these systems to regularly clean pipes of organisms growing on the pipe walls.
Self Cleaning Tanks
Oceans Design is the sole U.S. manufacturer of commercial self-cleaning tanks for high-density larval culture. Many species of fish larvae require a frequent supply of micro-diet feed in order to wean them from live feeds to dry diets. The majority of this feed isn't consumed by the larvae and sinks to the tank bottom where it will form large bacterial mats if not cleaned regularly.
Because many species are cultured using green water techniques or clay, it is difficult to see the tank bottom. The only effetive cleaning mechanism is by siphoning these tanks which takes an enormous amount of time and results in many viable larvae getting siphoned in the process. Oceans Design's self cleaning tanks utilize a squeegee that cleans both the sidewall and tank bottom depositing all the debris into a trough extending from the center of the tank to the side wall. This trough is easliy siphoned in seconds or a trough squeegee can be added to pull all the debris to a drain valve.
Educational Systems
Oceans Design fabricates portable, compact tank systems perfect for educational institutions intending to educate students in aquaculture.
Aquaculture and aquaponics in class promote scientific literacy and provide a valuable tool for teaching the natural sciences at all levels of education, from primary through post-secondary education. An aquaculture classroom system provides multiple ways of enriching classes in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM). The day-to-day maintenance of aquaponics can also enable experiential learning.
Skid Mounted Systems
Skid mounted recirculating aquaculture systems (RAS) provide complete filtration in a compact and moveable package. This concept is ideal for commercial and research applications where culture or experimental tanks are not in continuous use or space is limited to allow for multiple independent filtration. Through our unique Concept to Fabrication process, we work with the clients to custom design the turn key RAS, fabricate and test prior to shipping, and deliver on site ready to be installed. Because each customer's requirements and needs are differ, the layout and components used in each skid system are unique. System components may include bead filters, UV Sterilizers, degassing columns, cartridge filters, water chillers and/or heaters, pumps, aerators, moving beds, inline heaters and touch screen control boxes.
