Egg collectors play a crucial role in any broodstock system. Marine fish eggs typically float to the surface, allowing easy skimming into a collection device for harvest. Handling this process gently and efficiently is important to avoid damaging the eggs.

McDonald-type hatching jars are specialized incubation containers used for hatching fish eggs, particularly those of species with non-adhesive, buoyant eggs. These jars are designed to provide continuous water circulation, ensuring proper oxygenation and preventing egg clumping. This design minimizes mechanical damage and maximizes hatch rates.

The Hatchery Feed System (HFS) was developed to distribute hard to deliver micro-diets to larval fish. The system provides a wide range of versatile feeding regimes for larvae and early juvenile fish. The operator can easily customize the system for specific feeding requirements on a daily basis through a user-friendly touch screen interface. Alternatively, a series of feeding regimes can be pre-programmed and recalled based on larval development and life stage which can be used repeatedly for successive production runs. Feeder controllers are available with 24, 8, or 4 output channels each capable of being programmed for a unique feeding schedule. Each feeder output can operate 2 feeders and pump outputs up to 3 HFS peristaltic pumps.

Our HFS feeders are specifically designed to administer micro-diets ranging from 100 to 2000 microns in size. A clear hopper allows the user to easily gauge how much feed is in the hopper and the angled design prevents the micro-diets from compacting under its own weight.

The HFS feeder works by distributing feed as “shots” with a quick action solenoid that pulls the feed plate back dropping a small amount of micro-diet in front of a built-in air manifold, dispersing feed up to 3ft into the tank depending on the micro-diet feed characteristics. Up to 4 consecutive shots can be administered per feeding event.

Oceans Design is the sole U.S. manufacturer of commercial self-cleaning tanks for high-density larval culture. Many species of fish larvae require a frequent supply of micro-diet feed to wean them from live feeds to dry diets. The majority of this feed isn't consumed by the larvae and sinks to the tank bottom where it will form large bacterial mats if not cleaned regularly.

Because many species are cultured using green water techniques or clay, it is difficult to see the tank bottom. The only effective cleaning mechanism is by siphoning these tanks which takes an enormous amount of time and results in many viable larvae getting siphoned in the process. Oceans Design's self-cleaning tanks utilize a squeegee that cleans both the sidewall and tank bottom depositing all the debris into a trough extending from the center of the tank to the side wall. This trough is easily siphoned in seconds or a trough squeegee can be added to pull all the debris to a drain valve.
